Getting to Know You: Ms. Maria Mavrides
What is your role here at Gymtime? I’m the Head Teacher for the Young Two’s Classroom at Early Learning Foundations Preschool
What is the best part of your job? The daily interaction with my young students and the ability to see tremendous growth from the beginning to the end of the school year. The extra hugs from my little students are an amazing bonus.
What was your first job? I was an Econometrics Teaching Assistant during my Sophomore and Junior year as an undergrad.
Where did you grow up? I grew up in Quito, Ecuador and came to the US to attend college.
What is your favorite activity to do outside of work? I love to spend time with my children, Zoe and Isabel. I love hiking, reading and planning trips.
What is something most people would be surprised to learn about you? Probably, that I was an investment banker before I became a teacher. I was also Marathon runner and ran 3 Boston Marathons.
What are three things you never leave the house without (besides your wallet, keys and phone!)? My younger child’s Epi-pen, Benadryl and tissues.
If you could meet one person dead or alive, who would it be? Gene Roddenberry, the creator of science fiction most amazing franchise, Star Trek. I love the ideals and philosophy behind his work and would love to personally discuss his vision.
