CREATOR and CO-OWNER, KITCHEN LITTLE COOKING SCHOOL

As the creator and co-owner of Kitchen Little Cooking School at Gymtime, Leah Landon is passionate about spreading her nutritional message to the community. She spent the first 10 years of her career in Los Angeles, successfully working behind the scenes of the music and television industries. But after returning to her hometown of New York City, she shifted her priorities, focusing on transforming her physical body and emotional well-being. Based on her personal food philosophies, Leah built a successful food business that prepared healthy meals for busy families, which also evolved into cooking workshops and a catering company.

Leah’s educational background includes training with the Natural Gourmet Institute, as well as certification in holistic cleansing from the Optimum Health Institute. In her spare time, Leah also works as a certified cycling instructor and is a dedicated yogi.

We recently sat down with Leah to discuss her passions for cooking, as well as the creation of the new Kitchen Little Cooking School at Gymtime. This is what she had to say…

What is Gymtime’s new Kitchen Little Cooking School?
Kitchen Little is a full-service cooking school that focuses on preparing healthy, whole food, primarily for kids and teens but also for adults.

How does the new program differ from Gymtime’s previous cooking classes?
We take nutrition very seriously at Kitchen Little and believe that food can be good AND good for you. All of our recipes will be anchored in fresh fruits, vegetables and grains and free from any processed foods, refined sugars and “bad” fats.

What is the inspiration behind Kitchen Little?
My entire life transformed when I changed the way I ate.  An incredible shift started when I eliminated processed foods. Sharing my approach to food with moms and kids is what I love, and the partnership with Gymtime broadens my ability to reach that audience and allow more families to be inspired by fun, new recipes.

How did you get involved with the Gymtime organization?
My food business on the Upper East Side just kept growing! What started with one client soon became dozens of families. I was also catering events and hosting cooking workshops.  As soon as the Gymtime crew and I met, we knew this joint venture was a perfect match.

Why do you believe having kids in the kitchen at a young age is so important?
Kids develop a taste for what they are exposed to.  I love fresh fruits and vegetables because as a child, my mom would feed me red pepper as a snack. I didn’t have to “get used to” brown rice, because we never cooked with white rice. Once kids taste these amazing healthy recipes, that is all they will crave.

What types of recipes will Kitchen Little be cooking?
Vegetarian, nut-free and delicious!

How did you decide on the “secret ingredient” for your recipes?
My chefs and I came up with a list of our favorite ingredients and designed three-course meals around them. We have some exciting, unexpected recipes up our sleeves!
