Make it Monday

Winter is in full effect in New York City! Our Twos classroom at York Avenue Preschool has enjoyed learning about the changing weather, hibernation and winter activities such as skiing and sledding. As part of our unit on cold weather fun, both our Younger and Older Twos classes have used puffy paint to create their very own snowmen to live and play in our Winter Wonderland!
What You’ll Need:

  • Scissors
  • Oak tag or other thick paper
  • Glue
  • Shaving Cream
  • Googly eyes
  • Construction Paper
  • Various Art Supplies

What You’ll Do:

  1. Cut out snowman shape from oak tag.
  2. Create puffy paint by mixing together equal parts shaving cream and glue.
  3. Have children use brushes, spoons, or fingers to paint their snowmen. Leave out to dry for a few hours or overnight.
  4. Using glue and various art supplies, add features and accessories to their snowmen. Our students used pre-cut construction paper hats, googly eyes, pinecones, pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks and buttons. Be creative and incorporate any materials you and your child can find!

Puffy paint is an exciting medium for children of all ages to use as it contributes a unique tactile experience to art projects. It can be created in any color by adding a few drops of food coloring to the shaving cream and glue mixture.
