Gymnastics Tryouts: What You Need to Know
SHARED by: Haley Blair, Gymnastics Team Director
Gymtime Gymnastics is hosting tryouts for their competitive Gymnastics Team on Friday, May 9 and Friday, May 16 from 5-7p.m. Coach Haley has the tips on how to be prepared and what to expect at tryouts.
Arrive Early – Tryouts will begin promptly at 5p.m. We suggest arriving 10-15 minutes early to make sure you are ready to go.
Tie Your Hair Back – Make sure your hair is out of your face and tied back securely.
Drink Water – Stay hydrated throughout the tryouts. Avoid the line at the water fountain by bringing your own water bottle.
Drop-Off – Parents have the option to stay for the duration of the tryout or drop you child off and come back at 7p.m. The tryouts will last the entire two hours.
Events: We will go through four events, including: floor exercise, vault, balance beam and bars.
Judging: Gymnasts will be judged on form, skill level and the ability to apply corrections.
Results – Gymnasts will be notified on whether or not they made the Team after both tryouts are completed. Expect to receive an email by Wednesday, May 21.
Making the Team – Depending on the level, gymnasts will be required to practice two or three days a week in the gym.
Alternative Recommendations – For those who do not qualify for the Gymtime NYC Team, coaches will make a recommendation for the appropriate class for the child.
