Voting for the 8th annual Children’s Choice Book Awards is now open through May 3, 2015. Launched in 2008 by the Children’s Book Council and Every Child A Reader, The Children’s Choice Book Awards program was created to provide young readers with an opportunity to voice their opinions about the books being written for them and to help develop a reading list that will motivate children to read more and cultivate a love of reading.

This year’s nominees include Eva and Sadie and the Worst Haircut Ever!, the wonderful book that our special friend Jeff Cohen read to some York Avenue Preschool and Early Learning Foundations Preschool students this past November. Our students loved Eva and Sadie (and Jeff) and our fingers are crossed that the book will be this year’s award winner! How To Babysit A Grandma and A Pet for Fly Guy have also been popular choices in our library for both storytime and circulation.

I encourage you to take a few minutes to go online and cast a vote with your children. It is a fun activity to do together and a great way to get your children to express what they like or don’t like about the stories they are reading  and the illustrations they are seeing.
