Art is an integral part of the curriculum at York Avenue Preschool and throughout the year, students have learned about different artists, the mediums they used and the many different ways to create art. From splatter painting like Jackson Pollock, to constructing sculptures like Joel Shapiro, and even creating monoprints and screen printing to create their own Andy Warhols- the children have become very experienced artists and cultured art critics!

Earlier this month, the York Avenue Preschool classes visited the Met with their teachers to see some of the works they have studied up close. The Art Show is a culminating experience to showcase some of the works by our four and five-year-old artists.

Below are just some of the great works from yet another great year! Artists included in the study include Alma Thomas, Juan Gris, Gerhardt Richter, Yayomi Kusama, Mark Rothko, Pablo Picasso, Van Gogh, Odeon Redon, Claude Monet, Henri Matisse, Jim Dine, Jasper Johns, Hans Hoffman, Louis Comfort Tiffany, Kwoma artists of Papua, New Guinea, Wassily Kandinsky, Jackson Pollock, Michelangelo, Joel Shapiro, Andy Warhol and Georgia O’Keefe.
