As parents, teachers and coaches we have to stress the importance of kids being active both inside and outside the house. While the weather continues to get colder, try building an indoor obstacle course to keep everyone active and entertained. Beat those winter blues by having fun inside!

Use the obstacle course as a project for you and your child, being creative and utilizing everyday household items in a new and fun way. Some great resources include couch cushions and pillows to jump over, blankets, cardboard blocks or boxes, an indoor tunnel, and a defined start and end point. Once the course is finished your child will be proud of what they have built and will love to play on it. Create different challenges within the obstacle course by going through it backwards or without using hands! Once they’ve gone through the course several times, add new obstacles to make the course more difficult. If possible, keep the course up for a day or so and allow your child to utilize it in different ways, maybe for their cars or stuffed animals.

Once everyone has had enough, clean up the course together and start thinking about what your next course will look like! And of course, when you get bored of playing at home, come visit us at Gymtime for the ULTIMATE obstacle courses!

Have fun and stay active!
